On the day you switch over to your new supplier, you can cancel your Direct Debit with your old provider. However this will automatically be cancelled when a final bill is formed and all excess credit is returned to you or any debit is taken from your account. A final bill is formed around 6 weeks after your switch date. In this time your old supplier may take another payment.
